1. Introduction

Sit App LLC ("Sit," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Sit mobile application and website at sit-app.net (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights regarding your data.

Sit is a marketplace that connects pet owners with pet sitters in Morocco. We are not a pet care provider. Sitters are independent individuals who offer their services through our platform.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.


2. Information We Collect

a. Information you provide directly

  • Name and email address when you create an account
  • A separate notification email address (optional)
  • Home address and coordinates (used for service coordination, see Section 4)
  • Profile photo (optional)
  • Pet information:
    • Required: name and species
    • Optional: breed, age, weight, gender, medical information (medications, allergies), behavior notes, feeding instructions, energy level, and pet photos
  • Messages and photos exchanged with other users through the app
  • Access to your photo gallery when you grant permission (used for profile photos, cover photos, and photo sharing in conversations)
  • Reviews and ratings you leave for other users or pets after a booking
  • If you are a sitter:
    • Payout information (Payoneer account, bank details, or cash pickup preference via CashPlus / Wafacash)
    • A government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, or national ID)
    • A selfie for identity verification
    • References (optional): name and email of people who can vouch for you. Those referees will receive a link and may submit a written recommendation, which we store.
    • Profile photos and cover photos (via Cloudinary)
    • Services offered, pricing, availability, and home environment details

b. Information collected automatically

  • Device type, operating system, and app version
  • Push notification token (to send you booking alerts)
  • App usage data (screens visited, actions taken)
  • Last login timestamp

c. Information from third parties

  • If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address from those services
  • SMS verification is handled by Twilio. We receive confirmation that your phone number was verified

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Match pet owners with available sitters
  • Process and manage bookings
  • Send booking confirmations, updates, and alerts via push notification and email
  • Verify your phone number via SMS
  • Send email verification and password reset links
  • Process payouts to sitters and refunds to owners
  • Store your language preference (English or French) to communicate with you in your preferred language
  • Resolve disputes and handle reports
  • Respond to support requests
  • Improve the app and fix bugs

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in the following cases:

With other users:

When a booking is made, the owner and sitter can see each other's name, profile photo, and relevant booking details. Pet information (including medical details, behavior notes, and feeding instructions) is shared with the sitter for the purpose of providing care. Before payment is confirmed, only an approximate location is shown. Once the owner confirms a booking by completing payment, the exact address is shared. For services that take place at the sitter's home (boarding, daycare), the sitter's exact address is shared with the owner. For services that take place at the owner's home (house sitting, drop-in visits, dog walking), the owner's exact address is shared with the sitter. For boarding bookings where the owner requests drop-off or pick-up, the owner's exact address is also shared with the sitter. A sitter's profile, including their rating and reviews, is visible to any owner searching the platform.

Reviews:

Reviews and ratings you leave are public and visible on user profiles. Pet reviews left by sitters are visible on pet profiles.

With referees:

If you are applying as a sitter and provide references, those referees will receive an email with a link to submit a recommendation. Their name, email, and recommendation text are stored in our system and reviewed by our admin team.

With service providers:

We work with third-party services to operate the platform:

These providers only access your data to perform services on our behalf.

Payouts and refunds:

Payouts to sitters and refunds to owners are processed manually by our team and may take up to 10 business days to complete.

With our admin team:

Our internal team can access operational data including user accounts, bookings, sitter applications (including identity documents), disputes, reports, and payment records for the purpose of operating and moderating the platform.

For legal reasons:

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public.

In a business transfer:

If Sit is acquired or merges with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.


5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on servers hosted by Railway (backend) and Vercel (website). We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and JWT-based authentication. Email verification and password reset tokens are single-use and expire after a limited time.

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.


6. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within a reasonable time, except where we are required to retain it for legal or financial compliance purposes (e.g. payout records, dispute history).

Account Deletion

Users may request deletion of their account and all associated personal data at any time by sending an email to support@sit-app.net. Requests are processed within 30 days. Upon deletion, all personal data including profile information, booking history, and pet profiles will be permanently removed from our systems.


7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information via your profile settings
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at support@sit-app.net
  • Withdraw consent for push notifications at any time through your device settings
  • Request that we stop using your data for purposes beyond providing the Service

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors.


9. Third-Party Links

The app may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties.


10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
